To start building you web page, all you need is a text editing program like Notpad, that will allow you to save your document as an html document. I like to use Notepad ++ or Dreamweaver because both programs organize and highlight html code as you write it. This helps you know if you have any errors in you code.
When you open your editor, you can start writing and editing in html. To make a valid html document, however, you will need some basic info. You will need the following:
<!DOCTYPE html> – This declaration needs to be the first thing in your HTML5 document. It tells your browser what language (code) the document is written in.
<html> – This element tells the browser that everything within it is html.
<head> – This element provides the browser the information it needs to retrieve additional information for the web page
<meta charset=”utf-8″ /> – Defines the character encoding for the document
<title>Untitled Document</title> – titles the doc. In the browser tab not the actual web page
</head> – closing tag for the head
<body> – Everything you want displayed on the page will go in here
</body> – This is the closing tag for body
</html> – this is the closing tag for all the info within the html element.
The structure and format will look something like this:
<meta charset=utf-8″ />
